A Walking Tour of Luzern

Today Alexandra and I (Terri-Lyn) woke up to a warm, sunny morning. We drove into Luzern and took a two-hour guided walking tour. The leader of the tour, Gabriela, alternated beween English and German in her spiel.

We found out that the city of Luzern is built around bridges and fires, that many structures in the city have been burnt at one stage.

The large train station in Luzern was burnt down in 1971. The only part of the Bahnhof that remains is the old arch. (below)
Most of the Chapel Bridge was burnt down in 1993 by a thrown cigarette. It was rebuilt within 6 months.

The Water Spikes across the River Reuss control the flow of water. (above)

We stepped into the Jesuit Church, with its guilded decorations and elaborately painted walls and ceilings - very stunning.

As we walked through the Old City we were told of the history of the many buildings and were enthralled with
the way they were painted.

After we had completed this interesting tour we had some lunch at the Manor Restaurant and then did some shopping. There is still so much more to see in Luzern, so we will return many times.
